How to Season (break in) a new muzzleloader?
I would like to receive detailed instructions on how to season or break in a new muzzle-loading. I read some people use bore butter, but I'm not sure what the procedure is there.
For a new muzzle loader here what I would suggest. 1, clean and inspect the bore. Your search for anything that may have found its way in there during shipment or misused by others. 2, load and fire the weapon with the primers (CAPS) only. This will allow you to get used to relax and to verify any tears or rips on the primers. Could be the sign of a pocket or damaged tube.3, fire the weapon several times for practice. Clean it and then clean it again. 4, if your in range and need some more shots to sight in or practice, now is the time. 5 When you get home, clean it, every little nook and cranny.Once your done, you want to run a thin layer of oil in the bore. I saw some oils advertised for black powder only. They might be worth it, but I prefer simply Remoil. Just make sure that your loan to get the muzzle loader once you wash the first bore dry.
