BCS National Championship aftermath and thoughts?
Being a Texas Longhorns fan, I'm sorry, that is an understatement. I am sick at heart. I am helpless. I'm shocked. I'm depressed. But more than anything ... I am proud.
I could not be prouder of a football player that I am Garrett Gilbert now. A freshman who has been involved in no more than 20 times in his entire academic career, leads the largest stage in the game ... and struggles at first ... bad ... but the gains realized his composure at a level in the 2nd half even Colt McCoy would be impressed. Do not get me wrong ... the first half was atrocious.I almost put to bed after that Pick Six shovel pass. But she shook Gilbert and almost led the horns for the victory. Let's play "what if" OK very fast? What if Garrett Gilbert pulled that miracle comeback? Mayhem in college football. What if McCoy had not been injured, despite the impressive results of Gilbert in the 2nd half? What if .... McCoy had another shot to play Alabama in the national championship ... healthy?
You know, if not for profit opportunities in Texas in the title game, but at least for the sake of a good game of college football and the closure of one of the biggest shifts all the time ... I wanted to play Colt. I could see the heartache in his eyes on the button while watching his teammates play in the match, he was expected to play throughout his career. I kept thinking "this can not happen ... after all he did to get here ... Is it possible that he will not play? and trying to wake me from this nightmare.
Please do not take this as whining or not be able to accept defeat.But for now, I can honestly say that Alabama deserves the national title right now. They have not played the Texas Longhorn football team has played all year. They played a different team ... a team with a fear for a young quarterback. So until the Alabama team that plays that I saw and liked throughout the year .... I can not say they are the best team in the nation. Not now. Alabama fans you have a fantastic team ... One of the best I have ever seen. You guys probably deserved this championship more than any other team in the nation. But I think Colt McCoy deserves this title more than any other player in the nation.
My mind is really going in both directions at this time. Part of me is distressed and frustrated. Another part of me is proud and optimistic. Imagine how beneficial it is for Garrett Gilbert. He did nothing wrong. I can see now. In three years ... Gilbert last year. Texas Longhorns = national champions along with his shift won Heisman: Garrett Gilbert. That guy has balls, give him that. He has an incredible talent and perseverance too.
In 2012-2013, this will end Garrett Gilbert Colt McCoy has started at the University of Texas.
Love the first five or so comments to date. I feel like Heartache for Colt at this time. Whatever team he gets drafted ... I will renounce my fanhood Houston Texans and has a team of Colt McCoy's next team in the NFL.
Was sorry to see McCoy not be able to play, but I thought Gilbert played fine. My biggest disappointment was the way for the Texas offense just seemed to give up there for a while. Gilbert has made some good throws that could have been caught ... and should have been taken, if you hustle. Texas had the ball with three minutes and a chance to win the game with a touchdown ... if it was not a rash.
And I was impressed with Mack Brown's refusal to send McCoy back into the game ... documents by Birmingham McCoy has been reported as begging to get back in. Was an elegant gesture of Coach Brown refusing to take any chances.
