Time to get to the University of Chicago from Northwestern University?
How long does it usually go to the University of Chicago Northwestern University by Amtrak or by bus?
MapQuest says about 45 minutes, but I think it's not right, it seems to take too long.
Thank you.
The main campus of the northwest is in Evanston, in a small town just off the north shore of Chicago.
The main campus of the University of Chicago in Hyde Park, a community on the south side of Chicago.
There is no "Amtrak" connection. You can take the local system of commuter trains, CTA (also known as "The El"). And CIT also operates local buses.
My personal experience is that 45 minutes would be a short time optmistically to conduct the Northwestern to U of C simply because the road would involve going through downtown Chicago and the traffic can be very heavy.
Was Northwestern University(Chicago) less difficult to get admitted in the 80s than it is today?
Told that the Northwestern University in Chicago is ranked as one of the major schools. Some of my friends said it was much easier to enter the college in the 80s than it is today? Do you think this is true?
Each prestigious university, was much higher acceptance rate in the 1970s/80s and even the 1990s. Top colleges have become much more difficult to enter, since more students and others wishing to obtain post-secondary education.
A little over a decade ago in the USNews college rankings 1997, Yale acceptance rate was 18% against 8% today. UPenn, MIT and UChicago were 30%, 24% and 58% respectively compared to 17%, 10% and 26% today. Northwestern had an acceptance rate of 33% in 1997 against 25% today. And there is only 12 years.
The 80 had an even higher percentage (Yale had an acceptance rate of 26% in 1980). You can assume the same for Columbia, Northwestern, Duke, etc.
SAT / ACT profile and strength / achievements of the candidate are also much higher than before. So yes, it is much harder to get into a prestigious college (not just the North-West) now than before.
